Black Spiders – Jagermeister Stage – Sonisphere UK 2011
From the minute that the Sheffield based Black Spiders hit the stage, I knew that this performance was going to be very special indeed. The anticipation from their dedicated fans was electric and seeing that the band are flying high at the moment, it was even more special that they were headlining the Jagermeister stage.
From the very off, the band kicked in to life pounding through the ingenious ‘KISS tried to kill me’ – What a starting track, immediately the crowd were baying for more. What sets the Black Spiders apart from other bands on the circuit is the rawness of them. They are such a polished machine on the live circuit having played some amazing venues,festivals and countries yet still manage to sound edgy and fresh. I believe that this sound comes from their hunger that they have collectively as a band. The groove of the riffs that kick out, matching the ferocious bass frequencies that Adam blasts out combined with the sheer crazy yet brutal tub-thumping of Tiger Si linked up with the amazing vocals of Pete at the helm makes for the most fantastic rock and roll band of our generation. Anyway, I digress.
Next up was fan favourite – ‘Stay Down’ this song is renowned for the phenomenal crowd participation for the chorus and tonight was no let down. It seemed as though every single fan that was there, relished in giving the middle finger to the band (upon instruction of course) and the “Fuck You Black Spiders” from the crowd was a genuine goosepimples moment. That combined with Adam breakdancing halfway through the song, what more could you want?
The set closed with Blood of the Kings and it seemed as though no fan went away disappointed. Such a great highlight from the weekend for me and not many bands bettered that performance.
As the Black Spiders saying goes – EAT THUNDER, SHIT LIGHTNING – and you know what, the gig was so awesome, i felt like I had….
I really do recommend that you purchase the Black Spiders album “Sons of the North” and check them out live – they really are not to be missed. Get on to them now, they are gonna be huge. That is all.
