@The Tiv, Buckley, North Wales

The Preston based 5-piece were asked to fill in at the Tivoli nightclub in Buckley on this cold and wet Monday night and they duly did so. Unpeturbed by the lack of crowd generated for the event, they took to the stage like they were playing a festival.
This is what sets them apart from other bands. They are not pretentious or self-rightous and regardless of the situation, they give their all. I mean, how many other bands will take to the streets of their home town and hand out flyers to their own gigs? A lot of bands and even some promoters are far to dependant on the comfort of social networking online but Population Four are genuine work-horses who will strive and push to get what they truly deserve.
They powered through their energy-charged set with a punishing rawness, yet a refined composure ensuring that the people that did attend went away with a new favourite band.
Tracks such as ‘NOMADS’ and the very apt ’This Town Will Drag You Down’ are frightfully catchy, but dont get me wrong, these guys are heavy too. In a live environment, the crunching Riffs from Daff and Cooko combined with the (face) fuzz bass frequencies from Ceres and soul-pounding Drums from the extremely talented Si make for a superb lineup. At the front they have the most un-assuming and warming frontman your ever likely to see, but dont be deceived by the smile..The range that Rick has is awesome, the catchy melodies nailed note for note combined with the brutal power of the screaming is a great combo. If I was to describe them briefly as a unit, I would say “Finch…with balls” and I hope they continue this work ethic and the un-immitable live performances for the future.
Lets just hope they come back to Wales in the future, they are an exciting prospect to behold and have a bright future ahead of them.
