MY RUIN/ GODSIZED/ SANCTORUM/ LONG DAY FEAR
Moho Live, Manchester
20/1/2012

The second night of the Southern Revelation tour hits Manchester where all 4 bands are waiting to come on stage and bring their own style of hard rock/metal to the masses. First band are Midlands rockers LONG DAY FEAR who ensure the night gets off to a promising start, starting with ‘Don’t Watch The Rain’ and ending with ’Bones’ the four-piece use up their allocated half-hour set very well, and have done enough to add some new fans to their growing fanbase.
SANCTORUM are the heaviest band on the bill and this is the third time that they’ve supported My Ruin on tour and therefore they know what to do to impress the eager crowds. Tonight
they’re reduced to a 3-piece with Aaron Sly assuming vocals and bass duties and despite being one member down, the band blast through their set flawlessly. Tight, energetic and
heavy as hell, no wonder theyve been invited back for the tour. Awesome stuff indeed. One of our favourite bands here at CIRCLEPIT and definitely one to watch out for in the future.
London 4-piece rockers GODSIZED are no strangers to the UK underground scene, these past couple of years they’ve been building up their fanbase slowly but surely,
especially when theyve supported the likes of BLS. Judging by their performance they have proven why they are one of the bands to watch for the future, playing 45 minutes of no-frills, perfectly executed metallic hard-rock songs, they have struck quite a chord with the crowd tonight.
The crowd are in overdrive as soon as MY RUIN frontwoman Tairrie B Murphy arrives on stage, aided by her guitarist husband Mick Murphy and a new bassist and drummer,
each song is played as if their lives depended on it. From the off, it is apparent to see that no matter how hard you try, you could not flaw this performance.
Last month My Ruin released their latest album ‘A Southern Revelation’ as a free download. It’s an album that’s heavy, angry and awesome in every way and when the band play the songs from that album, you could see just how much they mean every word. In Tairrie B Murphy’s performance on stage, you can see the emotion, passion and the sheer aggression in every word she screams and combining Mick Murphy’s heavy, pulsating riffs which adds the icing on the cake.
The tracks from the new album, such a Tennessee Elegy, Middle Finger and Walk of Shame, really get the crowd bouncing and its apparent that the latest release is really popular with the fans. This album is knows as My Ruin’s “Slaying of the Beast” and going by tonights performance, not only did they slay the beast, but they well and truly kicked its ass! The back catalogue also gets an airing which it pleases many of the fans, songs like ‘Burn The Witch’ and ‘Excommunicated’. Crowd favourite ‘Stick It To Me’ was also aired and long time friend and fan of the band Jack Osborne lends his awesome vocal display to form a deadly duet with Tairrie B.
By the time the band call it a night, the fans yelling out ‘we want more’ ring out through the venue and I can’t blame them as My Ruin have played a blinder tonight. Everything
fell in to place perfectly. There are far too many acts around who can’t emulate My Ruin and release records and manage constant touring without the luxuries of record labels. My Ruin are
the perfect example of a ‘DIY’ band, they’re prominent in every way and never fails to impress their fans. If you look up ‘dedication’ and ‘hard work’ in the dictionary, there should be an
image of My Ruin next to it. They are a band who stand by their beliefs and that’s rare to find in music these days. My Ruin are stronger than ever before, long
may they reign! I can honestly say that tonight’s performance was right up there with the best, and the rest of the country are in for treat as My Ruin are seriously packing a punch. Do not miss out on this tour.
