Live @ Manchester Academy – 27/10/10

On the brink of what could quite possibly be the biggest show of the year in Manchester, a 2300 strong fan base have been camped outside as early as 1pm in an eager anticipation of 2 such coveted bands.
Stone Sour and Avenged Sevenfold are highly thought of where ever they travel and there is no exception for this show. It had just about reached fever pitch when the doors opened and that energy from the waiting crowd spread in to the venue.
Once Avenged Sevenfold took to the stage the place lit up. What a stage set up they had, with big burly gates and skulls adorning the brick work, there was no expense spared. It looked phenomenal!

Beyond the fancy backdrops and shiny guitars, Avenged Sevenfold are supremely talented musicians and they were flawless in their execution of their material new and old, working the crowd in true showmanship, but also nailing every riff, solo and beat effortlessly. The ferocious power in M. Shadows vocals was truly breathtaking and to be honest, there are not many front men out there that could match him.

Throughout the set they varied their songs and played a number of ‘hits’ as well as some new material of the latest ‘Nightmare’ album. The tracks that stuck out for me were, Nightmare and Beast and the Harlot. It is clear the significance of ‘Welcome to the Family’ now that Mike Portnoy seem to be a permanent fixture behind that massive drum-kit.
This band seem to be riding high at the minute and to be honest, as long as they keep doing what they are doing, then I cant see it changing.
Thanks to Libby at Warner Music and also Jim Milne for his awesome shots from the gig
