One Minute Silence Interview Questions

blue answers – Glen
red answers – Massy
Welcome back…it’s been a while and you’ve been missed! You must be eager to get back on the scene?
Thanks very much. I’ve actually always been making music in my absence from ‘the scene’; I’ve been busy with my other band and learning production skills. As for getting back on ‘the scene’, I’m hoping that it doesn’t involve compromising my new musical approach.
Thank you and yes it has been too long. It’s going to be a very very sweet moment when we play our very 1st show!
You are currently working on a new album with the new additions of a Drummer and a Drum N Bass DJ is this new direction for One Minute Silence?
The drummer is Martin Davies who also plays with me in my other band ‘Citizen’. He has become, over the years, a very close friend and somebody I rely on for inspiration. He’s so amazing; he poses a challenge to keep up with. As for the programmer, we’re working with a few very talented people in that field, the way we are envisioning music right now needs those extra layers, not necessarily drum and bass, but competent programming/keyboards.
It will definitely be different to before but still OMS through and through! Every album we’ve made has been different to each other so we kind of have the freedom to do that now.
You looking forward to promoting the latest addition in Europe/ USA and rest of the world?
We are dying to play live again
Of course, its one of my favourite things in the world. Being in a band with your best friends, sharing your music to fans who love to see you and seeing the world together. Is this a trick question? Lol
You hoping to be on next year’s festival radar? Which festival would you most excited to play at?
Yes, I guess all the usual ones. But there’s one particular festival in Portugal called ‘Paredes de Coura’ that might not be the biggest or most prestigious but it left a lasting impression on me in terms of scenery and laid back atmosphere.
Yes we’d like that very much, the festival vibe is great. We really want to do Sonisphere seen that we had to pull out this year. So we have to make it a special show for Soni 2012
Within your new time in the studio, you’re inviting 50 lucky fans through Pledge Music to come down to the studio to record and film, it must be very exciting for you guys to involve your fans…
The fans were always an extension of the band anyway and it makes sense to directly involve them and cut out the extortion imposed on them by the business/middle men.
Within your past albums, the lyrics are political but you guys have stated in the past you are not a political band. With what is going on with the world today…..is this still the same with OMS?
We stated that we’re not a political band but we are just political people who express their views in conversation, music, lyrics etc. Of course we’re still concerned with the quality of life, we’ve just fine tuned our focus due to years of our growth of experience and knowledge.
Its funny that you say what’s going on in the world today as if its only started happening. Its been an on going process of finding balance. I guess I don’t see it as a political thing anymore but more of a spiritual evolution of consciousness. The truth will always win in the end because love is the only truth and love is pure conciseness and pure conciseness is all there is, and conciseness is at peace with itself. The mind has gotten tangled up and thinks its in the drivers seat. Lol
In the musical sense, what has been OMS’ main influences?
We’ve all got different influences and to name all mine you’d need to print several volumes. Suffice it to say, we intend to use a more varied range of influences as well as the rock ones.
Well it’s a hard question to answer cos all 5 of us like all different things, that’s why its taking so long to write this bloody album haha
To the music fans who have not had the opportunity to listen to OMS, where would you recommend to start?
The One Minute Silence You Tube Channel.
Buy Now…Saved Later
If you had the opportunity to collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Again, to name all of them…I guess one of them would be Peter Gabriel, another would be David Bowie, Josh Homme, and David Gilmour. I’d better stop because this could go on forever.
Damian Marley or Lisa Gerrard or RATM
With the British music scene changing rapidly over the years, are there any modern bands that have caught your eye?
I’ve been discovering bands that have been around for longer than I have…that’s been eye-opening.
I don’t know if you’d consider them modern, but the last metal album to blow me away was Mastodon’s ‘Crack the Skye’.
10 Ton Tongue
Do you have anything more to add and why should everyone be excited about OMS’ eagerly awaited return…
One of the advantages of being out of the ‘circus’ for the past few years has been that I have a complete disregard for the ‘How to be a successful Rock Band’ rulebook and the music I am writing now seriously excites me and I’m hoping that it’s contagious to everyone. Rather than writing music like a factory worker in a production line, I am now like a kid with a huge box of Lego and everyone should get excited about Lego!
Thanks very much for displaying an interest in us; I can guarantee that our music will reflect our work ethic and none of our fans will be taken for granted.
See you all soon!
Get ready for the heaviest band of all time OMS are back!!!
