We are pleased to present a free ‘Tone Clinic’ at Base Studios in Stourbridge UK on the 14th of June.  At this clinic, the instrumental members of Fozzy will be performing on the live stage as well as sharing their masses of knowledge on tone, technique, gear, touring and everything else that you need to get from playing in your bedroom to gracing the stage.

Rich ‘Duke of Metal’ Ward, Billy Grey, Paul DiLeo and Frank Fontsere will be performing at Base hot on the heels of their performance at the Download Festival and the Metal Hammer Awards Show on the weekend prior.

Laney welcome Andy James to the Family of Laney Endorsees

We are very happy to welcome Andy James to the Laney family of endorsees.

For some time, he has been widely regarded as one of the U.K’s rising stars in the realms of Shred & Metal guitar. Now, Andy James has undeniably earned himself a place among the very best in the world.

As a major contributor to ‘Lick Library’ and ‘Jamtracks Central’ – Andy has specialised in teaching lead techniques for Heavy Rock and Metal. Not only can he be found mastering others’ techniques but, influenced by the likes of Andy Timmons, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert and Adam Dutkiewicz, Andy is incredibly skilled as a songwriter, as heard on a solo ‘In the Wake of Chaos’ and ‘Machine’ , as well as his contribution to his band, Sacred Mother Tongue, who have a new album about to be released.

 
It hasn’t taken long for Andy James’ name to become a leading light in the world of Metal guitar; Andy can be found holding workshops and master-classes as far afield as the Los Angeles N.A.M.M show and the Frankfurt Music Messe.

 
Be it workshops, exhibitions or with Sacred Mother Tongue, seeing this man live is a must. To witness first hand the sound, the dynamic, the dexterity and the speed with which he plays, live on stage, is a site to behold and is the personification of what has made Andy James world-renowned in his field, and now, the world is his fretboard.

 
Andy is heading out to China for some dates starting next week with Sacred Mother Tongue.  He is currently using the Ironheart range of amplifiers.

Hard Rock Hell & Hammerfest Festivals upgrade to bigger location

After 4 successful sell out years at Prestatyn, Hard Rock Hell and Hammerfest have now decided to leave Prestatyn and venture along the North Wales Coast to a bigger more tailored site location.

The new larger Haven site @ Hafan y Môr in Pwllheli, will see a major hike in quality units along with bigger venues, more eateries and generally wider facilities on site . This also means that both events will effectively be increasing their capacity to bring in an altogether new more tailored Rock n Metal experience which will commence at Hard Rock Hell 6 in December.

Hard Rock Hell & Hammerfest are operated by Chic Festivals SLU, Europe’s number one operator of boutique residential festivals . French progressive metallers UNEVEN STRUCTURE will tour the UK Tour this July, including an appearance at this year’s UK Tech Metal Festival, with support from UK tech metallers NO CONSEQUENCE.

Uneven Structure will play their critically acclaimed «Februus» album and «8» EP in their entirety for a 70 minutes set. No Consequence will showcase tracks of their upcoming sophomore album, to be released later this year.

Tasty treats promised as The Darkness announce the release of brand new album ‘HOT CAKES’ for August 2012

British rock band The Darkness have confirmed they will release their third studio album on 20^th August 2012  ‘Hot Cakes’ will be released via PIAS (UK and world ex-North & South America) and Wind Up (North & South America) and was produced by Justin and Dan Hawkins along with their long-time collaborator, Nick Brine and mixed by Bob Ezrin.  After six years of impatient waiting, fans can expect a musical explosion of multi-platinum rock riffs, pop hooks, and the best infectious choruses and balls-out stadium anthems around.  More details coming soon …

The group kick off their Australian tour this week (4^th May) before heading to the US for their second tour of the year.   Then return to Europe for several festivals before joining Lady Gaga as main support on her ‘Born This Way Ball’ European tour 2012.

UK Hardcore crew Freebase are back for more! New EP & Download festival appearance!

Freebase, a crossover hardcore band, were founded in August 1995 by vocalist Mark Fieldhouse and guitarist Nick Lovell. After playing their first ever show – supporting punk legends, G.B.H. in 1996 – they released their first recording, the ‘England’ demo, consisting of four brutally heavy, aggressive metalcore tracks. The response from the underground, not to mention the national and international metal, punk and hardcore scenes, was overwhelming.

Freebase travelled extensively around the U.K. for the next two years, playing some prominent shows with the likes of Madball, Cro-Mags, and a vast selection of other U.S. hardcore bands, as well as headlining many shows in their own right. 1997 saw Freebase become Metal Hammer’s unsigned band of the month, the magazine declaring: ‘Freebase’s dirty, riff-soaked hardcore has been causing a stir wherever it’s landed’. Several line-up changes and more well-received recordings, including a highlight contribution to the infamous ‘UKHC’ compilation CD released by Household Name Records, all helped Freebase evolve into a well-oiled touring machine. Their first U.K. tour, supporting U.S. veterans Cause For Alarm, in 1998 saw the very first date sell out at London’s Camden Underworld. It was quickly followed up with a European tour, and yet more extensive gigging.

Their first full-length album, ‘Nothing To Regret’, was recorded at Andy Sneap’s Backstage Studios with Dave Chang and released in 2000 on Diehard/Hardboiled Records. Frequent joint headlining tours with the likes of Stampin’ Ground, Knuckledust, Medulla Nocte and Assert helped find well-deserved sponsorship and hard-earned respect. Many compilation releases over the following two years, and another line-up change for the better, paved the way for the much-anticipated second album, ‘My Life, My Rules’, which was recorded during September 2001 in Aahus, Denmark, at the infamous Ant Farm Studios, with respected producer Tue Madsen at the helm. It was released by Diehard/Hardboiled in 2002, and promoted by heavy touring throughout Europe and Scandinavia, sometimes with stand-in guitar players, creating rumours of a split in the Freebase camp.

Eventually, and much to the disappointment of the European hardcore scene, who were still reeling at the power and intensity of ‘My Life, My Rules’, Freebase went into a semi-permanent hiatus. But now, a whole decade on and with not a single reunion show during the interim, Freebase are finally back with a highly impressive and respected new line-up, and many summer festival dates booked for 2012. Original members Mark and Nick have now acquired the services of drummer Ade Stokes and bassist / respected punk author Ian Glasper, both original members of Stampin’ Ground, along with original Assert guitarist, Ryan Evans. If ever there was a ‘UKHC super-group’, then surely this would be it!

The band entered the studio last month to record their new EP ‘From The Basement’ which features 2 new songs and re-workings of 3 songs from the ‘Nothing To Regret’ sessions and has already been played on Radio 1’s Mike Davies Punk Show. The EP will be out on limited 7” splatter vinyl in two colour selections and digital download on June 11^th on Dry Heave Records to coincide with the bands appearance at this year’s Download Festival.  So sit back and enjoy the ride, because Freebase are back with a vengeance.
