My Ruin – Ghosts and Good Stories

This album has been widely anticipated throughout the metal world and for damn good reason.  My Ruin have worked tirelessly in the metal circle and have stuck to what they believe in.  They have seen other bands come and go, images and genre’s change, yet since 1999 their dedication has been strong to the cause.  Many artists and fans alike have great respect for My Ruin. They are different, they are special and unimitable and this album is an indication to why.

From the very beginning of the release, the slow grinding riffs that resonate forcefully are indicitive of the brutal power that is upcoming on the album.  Never before have I experience an album quite like this. Yes there have been releases that are as dark, or as dare I say it, ‘gothic’, but NOTHING as soulful, evil, uplifting, heartwrenching, twisted and cathartic all combined and My Ruin take this to a new level all together.

Imagine the darkest place you can….and dig deeper, go further push the boundary and find the smallest black point in the back of your head and focus on it…..now listen to this album and watch that space explode with so much power, aggression and poetic energy, your senses wont know what hit it.  That is the beauty of My Ruin, they can tap in to raw emotions like no other band and they strike with a force that is immeasureable and leave you feeling as though you have experienced the Stigmata first hand.

There are many great tracks on the album, which cover many various topics and subjects and you will see that Tairrie B Murphy is one very strong-willed opinionated lady.  For those of you who dont know much about My Ruin, Tairre B Murphy is THE 1st Lady of metal. Simple as that, you can forget your Angela Gossow’s, Maria Brinks etc, this front woman is probably the reason they are in a band…not forgetting the powerhouse that is Mick Murphy, Tairrie B’s husband, he is a musical masterclass.  He wrote and played all the drum parts, guitar parts and bass parts for the album and then had a big hand in producing the behemoth sound that they are reknowed for.  Just to let you know, Mick doesnt just specialise in one instrument and play the others to a decent standard.  He is simply phemomenal how he has mastered the drums/bass/guitar and kicks the arse of most other musicians that I can name.  That is what makes this work.  Combine it with the ingredients of the chemistry of the husband/wife relationship and the fantastic writing ability of them both and what you have is Ghosts and Good stories.

I feel that this album is better than anything else released this year and dare I say it, even next year!  It is flawless and goes to show, that the hunger and passion and dedication of My Ruin is still present and without a shadow of a doubt this band are peerless.

I could sit and write about what each track is about and pick out every detail of each verse etc, but for this album there is no point. It is amazing, buy it, listen to and you will see what I mean. It cant be matched.
