We are very lucky here at CIRCLEPIT and were sent a copy of IMEX latest offering before any other webzine, for which we are very grateful. So we sent the E.P to our good colleague, Ben Jones to see what he had to say about our current Band of the Month.
This is a band I’ve heard from my friends to give a listen or come check them out as they played locally quite regularly. After listening to their latest E.P “These Lifeless Plains”, I feel absolutely disappointed that I ain’t seen Impaled Existence live.
Impaled Existence are a five piece Progressive Death Metal band from North Wales who look like they have a very positive future ahead of themselves with this devastating four track E.P. Giving clear indication that their influences are the aggressive bands Whitechapel, Origin, with a hint of melodic heroes In Flames and the complex progression Decapiated adapted to their music, they have matured their own sound to take on the world. Within the first track, “Fictions With In The Mind” it explodes into something very destructive with their addictive guitar riffs, thunderous technical drum kicks and ear ripping vocals, very much reminded me of Chris Barnes in his Cannibal Corpse Days. There is nothing worse when you are listening a Death Metal track, you are trying to find the rhythm and follow the track from start to finish. But with this track, what outstood for me was how complex it can be, very unpredictable and well executed.
For some of the modern metal bands in today’s world, their sound can become very limited song after song and it gets pretty bland, but further on into the E.P, this is a sign that this band aren’t afraid to experiment within their field. In the melodic “If Error Were True”, it reveals a synth inspired sound to break up their track and build up further adreneline and suspense in what they have to offer. “Through Stinging Eyes”, I didn’t expect a guitar solo which fitted quite nicely over a destructive arrangement. They’re catchy thrash metal inspired hooks, the unpredictable drum patterns and the intense growling can easily devastate a live audience. The last track “Worthy of Remains” brings this E.P to a devastating ending which craves you for more. If you love skull crushing breakdowns, guitar riffs that step into a fast paced gear and vocals that just make it sound like an earthquake hit your town, then you are gonna love this band.
It is clear to see that this record is very well produced, complimenting each member on their strengths and something very special to offer Death Metal fans who have been looking very different and striking. Having already supported inspired acts like Decapitated, Katakylsm and Exodus, it shows they are on the right path to where they want to be heading and this is the perfect opportunity for Impaled Existence to build upon this impressive work when they start work on their first full length LP, to get out there and make themselves heard because they have the potential to become serious contenders within the Death Metal Scene.
The one thing I would love to see happen for this band is the exposure to be recognised by doing such Metal festivals as Damnation, Hellfest, Wacken and Metal Camp because they would seriously go down a storm and make their mark destroying moshpits and increasing their fanbase.
