From the very start of the opening track, ‘I See Red’ it is clear to see that Fury Uk are out of the blocks with a bang.
There is plenty to take note of with these guys. First off, they are only a three-piece, yes you read that right! And they manage to get the most intensely huge sound.
I get what they are trying to do…There are tinges of Iron Maiden, Priest and also a good chunk of NWOBHM thrown in for good measure and it brings something really special to the fore. The album is a rip-roaring future classic made by three genuinely hardworking, selfless lads that love nothing more than enjoying bloody good music.
Lyrically, the band seem to have stepped up from the previous albums and the standard of the songwriting in general has improved somewhat. There are the obvious crowd pleasing tracks like, “Fall from Grace” but there is a darker side to their writing abilities. One of the stand out tracks on the release for me is “Nemesis”. To me, the track has a lot darker feel to it, with tempo changes a plenty. Once you hear the chorus, it makes the hairs stand on my neck…It is one of those tracks that live will definately give you goosepimples.
Individually the band members have grown on this release. They are stronger and more determined and it shows. Martin McNee on the drums, whilst enjoys hiding behind the kit a little, he certainly lets you know he is there with the massive double kick and insane fills.
What I also enjoyed about the album is the fact that the bass from Luke Appleton is so prominent. A lot of bands turn down the bass in the mix and it can leave a band’s sound lacking, but not with Fury UK. I believe that this is one of the reasons why the album sounds so huge.
Another fantastic thing for me on the ‘A Way of Life’ album is that there are guitar solo’s a-plenty, and Chris Appleton does a fine job on them.. They are not just gap fillers but they are solo’s that will inspire kids for years to pick up a guitar. Thats right, solo’s to melt faces, what more can album want? Another good touch is the harmony sections from the Appleton brothers. The gritty, raw feel to the vocals work well together and Luke really emphasizes Chris’s vocals.
So to sum up…
Great songs….check.
Riffage…check.
Epic lyrics…check.
Huge sound….check.
METAL….check.
A definative purchase.
This album will definately increase the Fury Uk fanbase even further and is without doubt, a massive progressive step in the right direction.
In my eyes, this album is a must have in any rock and metal fans collection as it covers most bases, but they do it fantastically.
Keep it up Fury UK!
