The last few years have not been very kind to Exit Ten, after releasing their awesome debut album ‘Remember The Day’ in 2008, things didnt turn out as the band hoped, their record label went bust and their discography couldn’t be reprinted, but it didnt make the band go their separate ways, instead, they carried on regardless and 2 years later they have come up with one of the best albums youll hear this year.
The sound on ‘Give Me Infinity’ is very different from its predecessor, fans who hope that this album will be a continuation from their last album will be disappointed, instead of the Progressive Metalcore sound the band were well known for, theyve replaced it with 11 songs of anthemic Melodic Metal/Hard Rock, to many people this may sound worrying, but having heard this, it turned out to be the best move the band have made.
Starting off in spectacular fashion is ‘Life’, from the off you could hear the change of musical direction, filled with catchy hooks and a memorable chorus, ‘Curtain Call’ starts off with a Grunge influenced riff, like the previous track it also boasts another chorus that you’ll find hard to not hum along to. New single ‘Suggest A Path’ takes on a more melodic feel, its one of the more uplifting tracks on this album, vocalist Ryan Redman is on top form, ranging from his low croons to a more higher pitched singing.
Halfway through the album is where the melodies feature more prominently, for instance ‘The Cursed’ starts off with some beautiful sounding guitar harmonics which leads on to yet another epic sounding chorus. ‘Sunset’ is possibly the most uplifting track on the album, not to mention one of the best, ‘Smoke’ slows the pace down with some sublime guitar work which shines throughout the track along with Redmans vocals which complements the rhythm section perfectly.
‘Mountain’ is another uplifting tune, which is reminiscent of the track Forgive by Feeder, which is not a bad thing at all, its possibly the best track on the album. Final track ‘Lion’ ends proceedings on an anthemic high, starting of with yet another sublime clean sounding guitar work which then builds up to a heavier distorted sound when then descends brilliantly into a melodic conclusion.
After listening to 11 tracks of pure brilliance, I can honestly say that Exit Ten have snatched victory from the claws of defeat, it’s rare to come across bands like these nowadays, with this album, surely it’ll be 2nd time lucky for the band, bigger and better things will beckon. Terrific stuff!!!
Best Tracks: Life, Suggest a Path, Sunset, Mountain.
